ISEF · 2016 Biomedical and Health Sciences

Overview

Teaching science can be a challenge in basic education, it is necessary for each topic to use specific didactic tools that can relate everyday life concepts with technic elements; tools that are easy to use and reproduce. The problem posed in this report is how to improve grades in an assessment about the theme: Waves and their elements. The purpose is to demonstrate that when using didactic material designed by a student during the lesson presentation, for this specific topic, grades in the assessment are higher than without the didactic material. A stethoscope was designed to strength sound through speakers and to show a graph of the waves generated by the heart beats, this activity was used with one of the two groups chosen for the project, and at the end of the lesson an assessment was placed. The teacher presentation went along with the student presentation who made the stethoscope, and who also showed graphs similar to an electrocardiogram that caught the attention of his classmates. The materials used are homemade electronic stethoscope, printed assessment, waves graph program, screen and speakers. The results expected in the assessment grades are significant different in the group that had been taught with the didactic tool than the one that had not.
