Water Quality Evaluation of Rahue River in the City of Osorno, through the Use of Biological Indexes
ISEF · 2016
Overview
The interest to know and protect river ecosystems is growing, also to study their changes over time, it has stimulated the development of different criteria to estimate the human effect on them. In this context, this project determined the water quality of the Rahue river using benthic macroinvertebrates as bioindicators. These samples were obtained from two areas one rural and one urban in order to compare both. The macroinvertebrates were identified, the biological indexes ChIBF and EPT shown that rural water quality is very good; however, when the water is near to the city (urban area), the conditions declined alarmingly.
