Screens, Strain, and Sight: The Science of Visual Acuity and Electronics
CSEF · 2026 Medicine & Physiology (Junior Division)
Overview
My science fair project was how electronics may affect vision with children. My goal was to prove my mom wrong so I could play more electronics. I tested using bright surroundings and dark surroundings and adjusted the screen brightness. I also used an eye exam chart and checked the blink rate for before and after using electronics. The results showed that most of the participants in the bright surrounding group and the dark surrounding group blink more before using electronic devices. In the eye exam results, the average result was 5/7 letters correct, which is worse than normal vision. I found that my mom was partially correct because the eye exam results were worse, but she was wrong for the blink rates in both groups.
