Un-Limb-Ited Prosthetic
CSEF · 2026 Medicine & Physiology (Junior Division)
Overview
Prosthetics are everywhere these days, and lots of people with them are proud to show them off! However, there is one major problem in the prosthetic field, and that is cost. Due to intensive labor cost, up-keep cost, robotic parts, and more; prices pile on fast, and I want to change that. My project was to design a three dimensional, functional, 3-D printed Prosthetic hand. The mechanisms used to open and close the fingers were string and rubber bands. I attempted to use electric motors, however during the process I discovered the motors were not strong enough to operate the fingers.
