Turning Every Breath Into Precise Drug Delivery: Wearable Breath-Synchronized Nebulizer for On-Demand Drug Delivery
CSEF · 2026 Applied Mechanics (Senior Division)
Overview
Many drugs fail because the body clears them out quickly, preveging them from reaching a steady, healing concentration. I designed and built a wearable, breath-synchronized nebulizer. This device uses a pressure sensor to detect the exact moment a patient inhales, only generating aerosol during that window. By syncing with the patient's breathing, the device enables continuous drug delivery and keeps it at a steady, effective level on-demand. This technology allows drugs with short half-lives in the body to finally work, opening the door for new treatment for diseases.
