The Mystery of Moisturizer
CSEF · 2015 Product Science (Biological) (Junior Division Only)
Overview
Objectives/Goals The objective was to determine which moisturizing product or lotion worked best to keep human skin moist. Methods/Materials The hypothesis of this experiment was the Humectant was going to moisturize the best because of the mineral oil and personal use. The hypothesis of this experiment was proven to be incorrect. Results The hypothesis of this experiment was proven to be incorrect. In conclusion, the Occlusive agent moisturized the best. The Occlusive agent was the petroleum jelly. A Conclusions/Discussion Even though my testing results showed my original hypothesis was incorrect, I learned much about how lotions and products keep skin moist. If one things could be changed this experiment, I wouldn't use petroleum jelly as the occlusive agent because it was hard to spread it. The petroleum jelly had to double boil it on the stove in order to spread it thoroughly.
