The Impact of Women Flying Kites Community "Rare Angon Srikandi" to Teenager Girl's Attention on Gender Equality Education in Denpasar City

Overview

This research analyzed the impact of the women flying kites community "Rare Angon Srikandi" on changing values and behavior of teenage girls on gender equality in Denpasar City, Bali. This research is significant considering Bali as a strong customary tradition region with the prominent role of community. This research presents the voices and experiences of the teenage girls' members of the Rare Angon Srikandi. The qualitative is the main research method, in combination with the quantitative method. The main material is derived from an in-depth interview with the founder of the Rare Angon Srikandi, the teenage girls' member of the Rare Angon Srikandi, and a questionnaire among teenagers (male and female) in the city (June-September 2020). This research founds that: (1) the Rare Angon Srikandi has practiced gender equality such as educating teenage girls to assemble, control, and lower the kite, and encouraging them to be involved in decision making in the community; (2) the teenage girls who joined the Rare Angon Srikandi has experienced changes values and behavior toward gender equality such as, i) gaining gender awareness that women should not be considered inferior to men, and women have the same roles and positions as a human, ii) expressing courage to voicing the women's rights and needs, iii) willing to spreading the values of gender equality to their friends (male & female), relatives, parents; (3) the teenager boys and girls in the City (320 samples) perceive Rare Angon Srikandi as the positive means of non-formal education in disseminating gender equality values and practices in Bali.
