The Effects of Coastal Erosion

ISEF · 2023 Earth and Environmental Sciences

Overview

Erosion continues to be an increasingly dire issue in coastal regions like Hawaii. This experiment aimed to decide which of the different types of barriers was tested to see if a particular barrier could slow or prevent erosion. The experiment tested and compared the effects of no barriers, rock barriers, sea walls, reefs, and dunes. When put up against the wave simulator, the results showed that the seawalls displayed the least amount of erosion and lasted the longest among the 5 barriers.
