The Disadvantages of Imidacloprid: The Effects of Imidacloprid on Alfalfa

CSEF · 2017 Toxicology

Overview

Objectives/Goals The goal of this project is to show that insecticides damage plant life as well as the targeted insects. I observed the growth of alfalfa sprouts with and without an insecticide called imidacloprid. Methods/Materials In this experiment there are two control jars of alfalfa sprouts and two jars of sprouts grown with the chemical. The imidacloprid is found in flea medicines for pets. Results The results of this project are that the sprouts grown with imidacloprid did not succeed past germination, while the control jars continued to grow healthily. Conclusions/Discussion This information could be useful in encouraging people to decrease the use of these insecticides to create safer environments.

Summary statement

My project is about the negative effects that insecticides, specifically neonicotinoids, have on plant life.
