Shaping Your Thoughts
CSEF · 2016 Cognitive Science (Junior Division Only) Fourth Award
Overview
Objectives/Goals My project is to determine if shape words can interfere with the simple task of naming shapes, I would also be looking for any crucial differences between ages and genders in the given results. Methods/Materials Four sheets each containing a different test, test one having shapes with matching shape words, test two having shapes with non-matching shape words, test three only containing shapes, and test four containing only shape words. Each test was given in random order to each volunteer from all ages and genders. All volunteers were timed until they completed each test. Results Most of the volunteers completed test four in the least amount of time, with test two being the longest test in average, while there were no crucial differences between genders and ages. Conclusions/Discussion My conclusion is that shape words inside the shapes showed a clear interference with the task of naming shapes.
