PuriFAS: A Fast Action System for PFAS Removal

AJAS · 2026

Overview

The widespread presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) poses a significant threat to public health. Studies indicate that PFAS are detectable in the blood serum of over 98% of the U.S. population (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2023), highlighting the extensive exposure to these persistent and bioaccumulative "forever chemicals." This research introduces PuriFAS, a novel multi-stage filtration system invented to remove PFAS from water. PuriFAS uniquely combines granular activated carbon (GAC), anion exchange resin, and reverse osmosis (RO) to reduce PFAS and total dissolved solids (TDS) levels. Analysis of water samples from the Jordan Lake (Cary, NC), before and after filtration with PuriFAS, demonstrated a significant reduction in PFAS levels (from 76, 65, and 83 parts per trillion (ppt) to 4, 3, and 5 ppt, respectively) and TDS levels (from 840, 933, and 762 parts per million (ppm) to 54, 67, and 71 ppm, respectively). These results indicate that PuriFAS effectively removes PFAS, achieving levels below the EPA's 2024 standard of 4 ppt, and improves overall water quality. PuriFAS offers an affordable, accessible, and effective solution for addressing PFAS contamination.
