Physical Effects of Colloidal Silver on the Plant Omicum Basilicum

AJAS · 2025

Overview

Colloidal silver, small silver nanoparticles known for their antibacterial properties, is explored for its potential as a plant growth stimulant, on Omicum basilicum, aiming to investigate the physical changes in response to varying amounts of colloidal silver application. It was hypothesized that, as the amount of colloidal silver given to the plant during nurturing increases, it will result in a dose-dependent decrease in the size and growth of Omicum basilicum. The data partially supported the hypothesis. The experiment involved 100 Omicum basilicum plants divided into a control group with no colloidal silver and three experimental groups receiving weekly doses of 5mL, 10mL, and 20mL of colloidal silver, with data on plant height, leaf length, leaf count, stem count, and overall biomass collected. The application of 5 mL colloidal silver demonstrated neutral influences on Omicum basilicum growth, showing statistically significant effects on leaf sizes, while, the changes in height and biomass were not statistically significant. In contrast, higher concentrations (10 mL and 20 mL) resulted in a dose-dependent decline in various growth parameters, revealing adverse effects and supporting the concept of hormesis, where lower concentrations acted as a growth stimulant while higher
