Investigating Effects of B. vulgaris on Stress Resistance and Longevity in the FOXO3 Pathway in daf-16 Mutant C. elegans
CSEF · 2026 Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology (Senior Division)
Overview
This study examines the effect of Beta Vulgaris, or beetroot, a plant rich in antioxidants, on the stress resistance in mutations in the FOXO3 gene pathway. Using the model organism C. elegans, wild-type and the loss-of-function daf-16 mutant was exposed to beetroot extract. Lifespan was measured through their ability to handle external stressors. Results showed an increased stress resistance in treated worms, suggesting that beetroot works to resist oxidative stress and support longevity when the gene loses its function.
