Healing From Within: Amniotic Fluid as a New Solution for Diabetic Wounds

Overview
In today’s world, 1 in 9 people all over the world suffer from diabetes. Out of those people, 1-3 in 9 experience something called diabetic wounds. This project helps biomedical scientists understand a cheaper and more effective way to treat people’s diabetic wounds, and helps eliminate more experimentation with amniotic fluid. The final experiment run was testing amniotic fluid against a negative control, which was saline, and a positive control, which was clindamycin, an antibiotic. Overall the final results proved to be unexpected, the amniotic fluid showing unlike background research stated, to have little to no effect on the S. Areus. In the biomedical field this opens up a whole new field of research to see if the amniotic fluid actually promotes the growth of S. Areus or if the amniotic fluid used for testing had a specific gene or bacterial strain that didn’t affect the S. Areus like predicted.
