Dangerous Dirt: Alleopathy of Eucalyptus Trees on Grass Seedlings

CSEF · 2002 Plant Biology

Overview

Objectives/Goals To measure how alleopathy in a eucalyptus tree effects grass seeds. Methods/Materials I collected 5 soil samples from 1,2,3,4, and 5 feet away from a eucalyptus tree. I had my dad randomize the samples in 72 plastic pots so I was blinded. I used commercial potting soil as a control. Results Seeds planted in soil nearest the trunk did not grow as well.

Summary statement

I measured alleopathy of eucalyptus trees on grass seeds.

Help received

My dad did the blinding.
