Cleaning the Scene: Using Forensics to Test for the Presence of Blood

ISEF · 2015 Energy: Sustainable Materials and Design

Overview

Using three different types of cleaners (an oxygen, a chlorine, and a regular detergent) three by three squares were washed either one, two or three times. Eight common forensics tests were run on each washed square. Test results were both chemical and visible results. Oxygen cleaners were most effective in removing traces of blood on both, and detergent was least effective on both. Chlorine worked well on chemical tests only.
