Overview

Goat raising is of great importance in the Mixteca region of Puebla, as it is considered the region's traditional dish. However, as the season progresses and drought sets in, goats begin to consume dry grass, affecting their growth and weight gain, causing poor nutrition and resulting in economic losses for vendors. During times of drought, ranchers purchase factory-made feed, which is generally expensive. To improve the quality of the feed, farmers used tehuixtle, oats, water, salt, discarded squash, and cracked corn to create a completely organic feed that aims to lower costs and improve quality for goat consumption. Experimental trials will be conducted on livestock in the community of Ixcaquixtla. Upon completion, the project will provide a quality, organic, and affordable feed, as well as reduce the growth of tehuixtle on vacant land.
