Wireless Lighting
CSEF · 2026 Electronics & Electromagnetics (Junior Division)
Overview
Abstract Our question was “how will changing the number of coils affect the brightness and distance they will work,” and our hypothesis answering that question was that the 600 loop coil would work the best because when there are more coils, it can produce more voltage. Our procedures were first to wrap all of our coils around the PVC, then make the circuit. Then, we attached the 9v battery to the circuit to power it. When we put a fluorescent light next to it, the light turned on. We will collect our data by using a light meter to measure the lumens/brightness of the light produced by the different coils, and using a ruler and a light to measure how far away the light can be powered. We theorize that the 600 coils will produce the most energy because it has the most coils to produce more electricity. This, in theory, will make the light brighter and will help the light work from farther away.
