Why Did The Chicken Come to Churchill?

Overview

In northern communities like ours, groceries are expensive and not always fresh. Our goal was to see if it would be possible to raise chickens locally, sell eggs and meat, and offer lower prices than local stores while staying sustainable. We researched and developed ideas to make the process as economical and environmentally friendly as possible. We also interviewed local government, elders, and residents who have raised chickens in Churchill. Our results showed it is possible to raise chickens in Churchill, sustainably and, if we were to make this project a reality we would have strong community support. However without financial assistance, the startup and building costs would be difficult to manage by ourselves. With proper funding and support, our project could become a sustainable way to provide fresh, affordable food, not just in Churchill but other northern communities as well.
