Violence Against Women in Peru During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Overview

During the COVID-19 pandemic, violence against women in Peru has been increasing substantially, proof of this is that from January to August 2020 there were more than 50 thousand calls for help to the Women's Emergency Center (CEM). This social problem becomes a public matter, because it affects the entire society, hence we pose the following problem: What are the elements and factors for the increase in violence against women in Peru during the COVID-19 pandemic? The research is basic because it is aimed at knowing the elements and factors for the increase in violence against women in Peru. For which the investigation was carried out in sources with information according to the selected topic and written by professionals, mainly psychologists, since they better understand the problem of gender violence. Violence against women is characterized by the interaction of elements of the structural component, control, and isolation whose main purpose is to monitor the women behavior. There was an increase in violence against women in Peru as well as in other countries of the world during the COVID-19 pandemic, due to economic instability and confinement factors. The main cause of this social problem is the element of the structural component (culture and social organization elements), and the main factor for its increase is the confinement, that is, the mandatory social immobilization that facilitated the impunity of the aggressor, because the Government aid services were interrupted.
