Vertical Variation: A Study of Prairie Creek Biodiversity
CSEF · 2026 Plant Biology (Junior Division)
Overview
For our project we wanted to see if there was a difference in old growth redwood forests tree and shrub diversity between high elevation and low elevation. Our hypothesis was that low elevation would have more tree and shrub diversity. In order to do this, we picked forty plots, twenty above 800 feet and 20 below 800 feet. We found that the lower elevation forest had more diversity then the Higher elevation forest. To collect our data we randomly selected 20 plots with 10 meter radii. We had fun hiking more then 20 miles on the trials of Prairie Creek National Park.
