The Effects of over-the-Counter Medication on the Phenotypic Expression of Drosophila Melanogaster
Overview
This investigation tested the unknown effects of overdosing on over-the- counter medications. In this experiment, flies were put into four different kinds of cultures: control and cultures treated with either Advil®, Tylenol®, or Benadryl®. Wild-type flies were bred with flies with the white-eye mutation. After two generations were produced, data was collected, counting the numbers of males and females along with the numbers of red and white-eyed flies in each culture. There was evidence supporting that these medications do affect phenotypic expression in flies.
