TEMEN (Terapi Autisme Online) : An Online Autism Therapy with YouTube

ISEF · 2019 Behavioral and Social Sciences

Overview

There are approximately 140.000 autistic children from 400.000 special needed children in Indonesia. However, we are facing the issues of the low numbers of therapist, and the low chances for autistic children to have therapy. Those issues urge the researchers to develop online autism therapy videos which are easy and free access. Then, we create the videos and uploaded them through popular social media, YouTube. The competences which are developed in the video are knowing, pronouncing, and differentiating competences. The object of the competences are letters, numbers, and daily words. This research consisted of three test: preliminary field test, main field test, and operational field test with 29 subjects. The subjects of this research are autistic children age 6 - 15 years old with stage 1, 2, and 3 of autism. The research used quantitative approach to find out whether the online autism therapy video effectively influenced towards autistic children's competences or not, by asking the parents of autistic children to fill observation guides before and after autistic children watching the video. Then, sample paired T-test is used for data processing. The final result of this research shows that the online autism therapy videos increase the ability of autistic children in field of knowing, pronouncing, differentiating letters, numbers, and daily words. It has been indicated by the pre-test and post-test score improvement of the autistic children. Keywords: ABA, autism, observation guide, therapy, YouTube.
