Strategy to Restore Namao Informed by First Nation Philosophy and Traditional Practices

Overview
The construction of the Churchill River Diversion in 1976 and the last 50 years of its operation has decimated the Namao, which thrived in our river for centuries, almost to the point of extirpation. This project is work toward a plan to help the Namao recover in the Lower Churchill River. Through extensive interviews with our elder and knowledge keepers I gained an understanding of our traditional practices and land stewardship. I studied the philosophy and priorities driving the operation of the Diversion project, and worked to developed a proposal and plan to balance the needs of industry with the need for environmental sustainability informed by our Indigenous world view and perspective regarding use of natural resources and environmental stewardship.
