Reflections of Hydropollution on Moina Brachiata
AJAS · 2025 Earth and Environmental Sciences (inferred)
Overview
Rationale: Environmental pollution from industrial emissions can have a large effect on precipitation quality. In exploring this further, I wanted to answer the question about whether precipitation from different environmental locations would change the viability of the common freshwater micro-crustacean, Moina brachiata. The types of locations compared would be metropolitan parks and industrial sites. This research will demonstrate the effects of water pollution from precipitation on our natural environment. Hypothesis: My hypothesis is that the water sources collected from precipitation close to nature parks will be better able to keep the crustaceans alive when compared to manufacturing sites because of less contaminants collected from the surrounding air. Experimental Design: My experiment collected precipitation close to three industrial sites and three metropolitan parks on three different days from October to December. The natural Moina medium was the control solution. The independent variables are the precipitation solutions and dependent variable would be the viability after exposure. Twenty Moina organisms were exposed to the control solution, twenty to three-industrial site precipitation sources and twenty to-three natural park sources. The total number of Moina alive was measured every twelve hours for two days for each precipitation date. Data Analysis: The overall average percentage of living organisms in each exposure condition at each time point was graphed to represent which type of precipitation had the largest effect on viability. Conclusions: The viability percentage and time at which one-half was viable was greatest in the group exposed to park precipitation because it provided less environmental pollution.
