Redesigning the College Admission Process Utilizing Blockchain Technology

AJAS · 2024 Systems Software and Computer Science (inferred)

Overview

Blockchain technology can greatly improve upon the weaknesses and susceptibilities in the authenticity of the current college admission process, particularly to validate and verify transactions. This study aims to use blockchain technology to create a framework which supports the college application process to create a more secure, systematic, and trusted system. The system was designed in two major components: the application and the blockchain network supporting it. Created to make student data verification simple for the user, the blockchain system was programmed to ensure that each artifact was completely unaltered by a third party by the time it reaches the college. Should the artifact be altered, the application informs the college that the data is invalid and that verification of the artifact failed. Using a smaller local blockchain, Ganache, the research supports that blockchain can be successfully implemented into the admissions system with complete accuracy and transparency. The system caught any discrepancies between the original submission and that received by the college. This system’s design and implementation applies to many different use cases like job applications, legal documents, and any others in which there is a need for security and trust in the transactions or exchanges.
