Ready! Set! Stretch!
CSEF · 2026 Behavioral & Social Sciences (Junior Division)
Overview
The purpose of this experiment was to determine whether stretching before running affects a person’s speed. The scientific question asked was: Does stretching before running affect someone’s speed? The hypothesis stated that if someone stretches before running, then they run faster. To test this, ten subjects ran 40 meters both with stretching, and without stretching, and their times and speeds were recorded. The results showed that most subjects ran faster after stretching, with overall times decreasing and speeds increasing compared to their pre-stretch trials. The conclusion was that stretching did improve running speed for the majority of the participants, supporting the hypothesis.
