Production of Strawberry in Inert Substrate
ISEF · 2017 Plant Sciences
Overview
BACKGROUND Our School is really involved with the community problems especially in our town and this project has essentially a solidarity profile with it. The specific problem in our research is the production of strawberries which is a slight developed activity in the area where the school is located due to the lack of the farmers’ knowledge. The problem of the low productive has to do with various factors related to soil pollution, problems with the farming method and unequal use of resources. OBJECTIVES The main purpose of this project is to help farmers to find a solution to the production of strawberries in the region. The partial objectives is to recover useless spaces, to eliminate the contamination of the fruits by isolating them from the soil, to reduce the consumption of the irrigation water, to make a correct use of fertilizers and also to obtain a more convenient harvest system for the farmers. PRODUCT The final product we obtained is an alternative strawberry farming system in a greenhouse with a raised support floor and using an inert rice husk composite. PROJECTION The main projection of our work is to carry out a campaign within the region so that the system can be implemented by more farmers and thus helps solving the problems in our area and apart from that it can be a helpful method for anyone along our country.
