Overview
Our project was about how some types of mushrooms can degrade plastic. The type of mushroom we studied are called Blue Oyster Mushrooms. What our procedure was that we had cut water bottles up into little plastic pieces and put 2 grams of where the Blue Oyster Mushroom was growing in. We did this so that the plastic squares would be decompose by the mushroom. The type of plastic we used is called PET plastic. One of the most common plastics, it is also used in your food containers, and personal care and household products. It's everywhere. The plastic pollution around the world is a massive problem and this could be one of the ways to solve it. Which is why we are looking for a way to reduce the amount of plastic that goes into the ocean and landfills. Where it won't degrade by nature for over 450 years.
