Ionic Liquid Assisted DNA Preservation
ISEF · 2026 Chemistry
Overview
Biological molecules, such as DNA and RNA have a variety of pharmaceutical and medical applications and were heavily utilized within the creation of the Covid-19 vaccine. However, biological molecules are not easily accessible and must be stored at low temperatures for long term storage which has made the transportation of these molecules increasingly difficult. The combat this, the application of ionic liquids were used, as they have shown potential in storing biological molecules due to their characteristics of high thermal stability, non-flammability, low vapor pressures, and recyclability.
