Ice, Ice Baby

CSEF · 2017 Chemistry

Overview

Objectives/Goals I want to determine if liquid nitrogen or dry ice will work better to freeze a banana. Methods/Materials I put three containers in my garage. I filled one with liquid nitrogen, another with dry ice and the last with dry ice and rubbing alcohol. Then I put a banana into each of the freezing agents for a predetermined amount of time. After, I took the temperature of each of the bananas and recorded the temperature in a notebook. Results the results that I received was that the banana got colder in the liquid nitrogen than in the other freezing agents. Conclusions/Discussion My conclusion was that, with the trials that I did, the liquid nitrogen worked better to freeze the banana. If i had left the banana with the peel on, it would probably not work as well because the peel would keep it insulated.

Summary statement

My project is about which is a better freezing agent, liquid nitrogen or dry ice.
