How Magnetically Suspended Tires Create the Most Eco-Friendly Vehicle

AJAS · 2025 Engineering (inferred)

Overview

Global warming is a significant environmental threat, and vehicles contribute to it greatly. This project not only aims to design a vehicle that does not contribute to global warming but also has the vehicle design harness the same technology as the L0 Series (the fastest and one of the most efficient trains globally) without being limited by a magnetic levitation track. As a result, this project proposes an eco-friendly motor design that can be implemented in vehicles as a tire system. Implementing the tire system design into vehicles could make vehicles more sustainable, efficient, and eco-friendly. The tire system design is built upon high-temperature superconductivity (HTS) and electromagnetism principles. The tires would magnetically levitate around a high-temperature superconducting stator, and electromagnets would be employed as a second stator to rotate the tires. Two prototypes were built for this project, demonstrating how the tire system would work if it were to be created. One prototype demonstrates magnetic levitation tire suspension, and the other demonstrates tire rotation. Based on the prototypes, several relationships were calculated and graphed. The prototypes showed how the tire system would have speed control, which all vehicles should have. Because the prototypes worked, this project also focuses on implementing the tire system design into a car using solar panels, sodium-ion batteries, linear actuators, and a Stirling cryocooler. The tire system design is not just limited to a car but can be applied to nearly any vehicle.
