From Tradition to Tech: Testing An Anisinimowin Learning App's Effectiveness & Future Improvements

Overview

Words are how we preserve our history, our culture, and our identity here at Island Lake. Words we use every day are slowly being lost. I wanted to make a difference.  Our Science teacher, Elders and native language instructors taught us words that define us. Our computer instructor showed us how to share those words using new technology. We wanted to have fun while learning. We started by asking students what they knew. Then they explored, played, and solved challenges instead of reading from a textbook. Finally, we asked what they learned. The outcome gave us all hope.  All grades showed improvement. Grade 11 had the greatest improvement by far. Not only did their scores go up, but they showed us that it’s never too late to learn if we make it meaningful to you.
