Developing a Non-Intrusive Marine Data Collection Apparatus

Overview
Researching and understanding inter-tidal and wetland ecosystems is important when assessing the health of our planet both within and outside the described marine ecosystems. The substrate at the bottom of these bodies of water and the data derived from it can be key when understanding the current status of the ecosystem. The chemical, organic, and physical composition of the substrate can provide a lot of insight. In this project, I plan to develop a non-disruptive device that can collect substrate samples. Using a combination of motors and sensors, I will create a device that moves linearly using minimal energy and effort. After developing my design, I will have it collect samples by running it and varying depths to get a gauge of its capabilities, capacity, and consistency.
