The Effect of Paeonia Lactifloral Pall Roots on Pain Alleviation in Primary Dysmenorrhea

CSEF · 2023 Mammalian Biology (Senior Division)

Overview

More than 80% of women worldwide suffer from primary dysmenorrhea. NSAIDs are the main treatment, however, more than 38% of women are unable to take them due to the multiple adverse effects. Paeonia Lactifloral Pall roots are an herbal remedy used for suppressing inflammatory diseases. My hypothesis for this study was that Paeonia Lactifloral Pall roots will relieve pain in primary dysmenorrhea. This study was a double-blind randomized trial with 100 subjects with primary dysmenorrhea divided into two equal groups: 50 in the Paeonia Lactifloral Pall root group and 50 in the placebo group. The results demonstrated that Paeonia Lactifloral Pall roots reduced the severity of pain more than the placebo, without any adverse side effects, with statistical significance. T-test, P-value: <0.05. Therefore, I prove my hypothesis that the treatment with Paeonia Lactifloral Pall roots will significantly relieve the intensity of pain in Primary Dysmenorrhea.
