Collecting Moisture by Static Electricity

ISEF · 2019 Environmental Engineering

Overview

The purpose of the project is to proof that static electricity has the ability of collecting soil moisture. Procedures: I made two separated boxes which is filled with the same kind of soil and the same moisture level. I numbered each box from one to three to get the measurement from the same point. I connected a wire from the static electricity generator to point number three then I did the same experiment but with different soil type (peat moss soil). I Measured soil moisture again after working for seven minutes and another time after working for fifteen minutes Then I did the same experiment but with pH instead of moisture. Results: The project could double moisture in point number three. In the second experiment the pH of point number three It became the lowest pH (the highest acidity) in all boxes. The progress of increasing soil moisture it was higher in peat moss than normal soil. Conclusion Static electricity can attract water molecules to the source of it in the soil.
