Overview

I did this project to determine if a student's reading habits will affect their academic performance. I created a survey, and provided permission forms to the parents/guardians of the students involved, to make sure they were okay with me using their child's information in my project. I found that the age at which a student learned to read, the time they spend reading for studying purposes, and the time they spend studying/doing homework have a large impact on their grades. However, a student's gender, highest parental education level, favorite book genre, and the average time they spend reading for enjoyment do not appear to have an impact on their grades. Overall, the results show that while reading has a positive effect on students' academic performance, it's important that students find a balance between reading for enjoyment as opposed to reading for studying purposes.
