CSEF · 2002 Microbiology

Overview

Objectives/Goals To find out why algae concentration is high in Lake Elsinore and to extricate it. Methods/Materials Disolved oxygen concentraton test kit. Nitrate concentration test kit. Phosphate concentraton test kit. Results Many agricultural and industrial run-offs caused algae to bloom. Copper II sulfate. Cutrine Plus and Barley Straw is used to extricate the algae. Barley straw was the most effective and safe with surrounding environment. Conclusions/Discussion Barley Straw takes time to decompose, but once it decomposes, it showed the highest rate of reducing algae while it wasn't harmful to the surrounding environment.
