Birds Eye View
CSEF · 2026 Zoology (Junior Division)
Overview
We chose this project because we were curious whether the color of nectar really matters to hummingbirds. We decided to run an experiment for a week with three feeders each a different color. We measured them every 24 hours in centimeters on how much they have gone down. Our data showed that out of the 3 colors, green, red, and violet, the birds drank out of the red the most because it went down 2 cm. This information may be useful for hummingbird researchers, because hummingbirds usually hang out in areas with good food, so researchers could gather hummingbirds for whatever research they have in mind.
