Automatic Traumatic Injury and Concussion Alert System (ATICAS)

Overview
In recent years, the number of concussions sustained while playing sports has skyrocketed from 1.6 million to an alarming 3.8 million concussions per year. While the increase in knowledge of concussions has more than likely attributed to such a sharp incline in reported concussions, studies have shown that helmets not only fail to protect against concussions but instead encourage players to tackle with their heads. Because concussions can’t be prevented, the ideal solution to combating concussions and concussion related diseases would be quick and effective detection. Primary stakeholders would include athletic trainers, athletes in high contact sports, coaches, parents, etc. By decreasing concussions, the risk of Alzheimer’s, Dementia, mental disorders and CTE is greatly decreased also.
