Absorption of Heavy Metals from Industrial Effluents using Fish Scales
ISEF · 2019 Chemistry
Overview
In our project we tested the capability of fish scales to fight water pollution. Our aim was to discover an environmentally friendly, and inexpensive way to remove heavy metals contaminants from water. We looked for suitable fish that is locally available in UAE fish market. Then, we used the chosen fish scales powder to purify heavy metal solutions that included Cadmium and Chromium. We’ve concluded that fish scales can be used to fight water pollution .They’re environmentally friendly and are capable of being a bio-sorbent for heavy metals in water. We aspire to create an efficient bio-sorbent that has low-cost, and naturally available. This project will support our community and economy.
