A Friendly Companion: A Robot That Is Capable of Connecting to Human Emotions and Able To Sustain a Conversation Through AI and Sensors

Overview

The project consists of a robot that has the sole purpose of helping people with emotional needs, solving an issue pointed out by NIH (The National Institute of Health) with the scars that left the pandemic on some people, loneliness had risen during the pandemic and this made many people unable to socialize or get out of their homes when the pandemic ended. So, Comet aims to ease that loneliness through small health checkups and pleasant talks with the user. Able to recognize facial expressions to determine how to properly help the user, be it sad, angry or happy, Comet can detect all of these and respond accordingly and all of the responses and behaviours are backed up by previous psychological research.
